Supreme Court Marriage Rulings

Why Are Our Justices Overriding The People?

The LDS Church made a statement yesterday that echoes my own thoughts:

“By ruling that supporters of Proposition 8 lacked standing to bring this case to court, the Supreme Court has highlighted troubling questions about how our democratic and judicial system operates. Many Californians will wonder if there is something fundamentally wrong when their government will not defend or protect a popular vote that reflects the views of a majority of their citizens.” You can read the rest of the Official Statement HERE.

The Supreme Court ruling on marriage was disturbing to me in many ways.  What does this say about our democratic process?  Regardless of your feelings about the issue, there is something fundamentally wrong with what has happened in the California Supreme Court, and now in the Supreme Court.

However, my feelings are not ambiguous on the subject of re-defining marriage. Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God.  I believe that children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony. (As eloquently stated in The Family: A Proclamation to the World).
